Jan Grant – Spring Lake, MI
Painter, Multi Media and Needle Felting
Jan grew up in Lakeside and attended Muskegon Public Schools. She then attended Western Michigan and received a degree in Medical Technology and spent 20 years working in healthcare while raising her family of four children. Jan currently lives in Spring Lake with her husband Bill. She has four grand daughters and four grandsons which several have become artists also.
When he oldest daughter Susan was about to graduate from Hope College and was planning on getting married and had an eye on a pizza restaurant and asked Jan and Bill to be involved in the business. So that took Jan and Bill to Holland, MI for awhile. At that point Jan decided to go back to school and at age 52 attended Hope College and graduated with a Bachelor of Art degree with a major in Studio Art.
For 10 years Jan also had a sewing business and took her work which included teddy bears and doll clothes to art fairs. She still enjoys sewing and does a wonderful job of needle felting, her Gnomes have been very popular in the gallery.
When Jan paints she uses acrylics, pastels but watercolor is her favorite. She enjoys painting floral pieces and since she grew up only 1.5 miles from Lake Michigan, she also enjoys painting water landscape.
