Martha Colburn does not think of herself as an Artist, but she is a Creative! She has a diverse passion for history, writing, music, drama, nature, philosophy and the visual arts. (and dragons! She loves dragons!) She has a particular devotion to all things fashion and clothing.
Martha’s intention is to bring people together to take part in, and trade in, the languages of creativity and fun. A supporter of everything Muskegon, especially Downtown and the Beach, Martha can “normally” be found attending all kinds of Muskegon events, kayaking at Pere Marquette beach, volunteering at The Lakeshore Art Fair, supporting local businesses, taking part in open mic nights with original writing, participating in local and state politics and enjoying family, including toddler twin granddaughters.
Beginning in the autumn of 2019, with a select group of talented artists, she introduced Wherehouse Studio, a collection of creative events and workshops. Topics both entertaining and serious have included painting, sculpture, jewelry-making, memoir-writing, journaling, poetry and photography, with the potential for much more! The “Where” in Wherehouse is the pop-up aspect of the Studio. The adventure of meeting in intriguing and diverse places that suit individual topics and teachers, has resulted in travel to coffee houses, art galleries, working art studios, beaches and libraries. Guests and teachers enjoyed these innovative events until March 2020 and the Pandemic stopped everything. Finally, new classes are being planned for the summer of 2021.
